Glory Glory Man United?
Last year Manchester United purchased two promising young talents from Portugal. One from Sporting Lisbon which, they purchased Ronaldo from and the other from the Dragons, FC Porto. Both cost them over 10 million and that is quite a hefty price tag for two young players who have not yet proved themselves on the big stage. This could be a gamble theta Manchester United would regret.
He played his youth career at Real de Massama and then moved to Sporting Lisbon.
The player from Sporting Lisbon is Luis Nani; a winger who can play on either side of the wing and can play with both feet. Sporting Lisbon are legendary for creating some of the best wingers in modern time. Such as, Cristiano Ronaldo and Simao of Atletico Madrid. In his first season at Sporting Lisbon he scored four goals in 29 appearances. He had similar stats in his second season. His surging runs and fast feet can even compete with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robinho. Also, he scored 1 goal in Europe in 6 appearances.
Manchester United bought him for a fee thought to be 14 million to 19 million with fees going to his parent club Real De Massama. He scored on his debut for Manchester United in pre season and scored again the following game with a nice chip on the right side of the box. He played well throughout that upcoming season and earned a call off the Portugal Manager Luis Felipe Scolari in Euro 2008. He has had 19 appearances for the Portugal First Team and has found the net 4 times.
Anderson, son son. He's better than Kleberson. Anderson, son son. He's our midfield magician. To the left, to the right. To the samba beat tonight. He is class with a brass. And he shits on Fabregas!
The other player was FC Porto's Anderson. Who if you read the title has a song that United fans made about him. He never played alot of games for Porto like with Gremio due to a defender breaking his leg. But, his time at Gremio proved he had alot of potential and talent. He scored a belter that promoted them to the first division. Unbelievably, he only played six games for Gremio and Porto snapped him up. He is a left footed Central Midfielder but, can also, play the role of an Attacking Midfielder. He is a Brazilian International and has an ever constant place in Dunga's squad with 8 appearances for his National team. He has never really shown his true potential at Manchester United yet then Nani has in my honest opinion. I know there is more to come. Even though he had not played alot of games in professional level Manchester United has bought him for around 18 million so, there must be something bigger to come. In 37 appearances he is yet to score a goal for Manchester United but he has assisted many.
The best thing about Anderson is his passing. Also, he has alot of determination and doesn't give up easily. Here is the goal that promoted Gremio :
Many people see Anderson and Nani as the successors to veterans Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
During, the January Transfer Window Manchester United bought two players. Two serbians. These two players were pretty much unknown in the football world. Adem Ljajic and Zoran Tosic. Tosic went straight into the Manchester United squad but, Ljajic who is 17 went on loan to the team that Manchester United signed both of them from, FK Partizan.
There is not alot known about Ljajic except he is 17 and he is an attacking midfielder. He has not yet broken in the Serbian First Team but, plays for Serbia in Under-21 level. In 21 appearances he has scored 4 goals. For 17 appearances for Partizan he has scored 4 goals aswell.
Tosic has been around the bloke in Serbia. He had played for three teams already including Partizan before he moved to Manchester United. In 81 appearances for all those clubs he racked up 16 goals. He made his debut for United in the Premiership as a substitute in the 77th minute fro Dmitar Berbatov against West Bromwich Albion. He has also came off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur in the 82nd minute for Cristiano Ronaldo. He is a left sided and left footed winger. Also, he made 12 appearnces for the Serbia U-21s finding the net twice. He has made 13 appearances for the Serbia First Team but its yet to find the net. Due to his performances he turned heads in his direction in Europe but Manchester United finally got his services.
Probably, what you have been waiting for! The Brazilian twins. Rafael and Fabio. Both teams played for Fluminese at youth level then Manchester United bought them both after, their successful trial.
Rafael has been the one who has settled due to him not picking up injuries. He scored an amazing chested volley against Arsenal. A small consolation prize as Manchester United lost that game 2-1 due to Samir Nasri's two brilliant long range strikes. He has replaced Gary Neville as Manchester United's first choice right back and can make surging runs down the right wing. Even though he is a right back he can play right midfield. Unfortunately, he has been injured for some time now but, he will be back in action around next week. Which, will be a boost for United's title hopes and their Champion League hopes if they overcome FC Porto.
People in Brazil regard Fabio the better of the twins. He captained the U17 Brazil team to win the U17 World Cup and was the top scorer of the tournament even though he was a left back. He is similar to Rafael, but he uses the left wing and has a better shooting ability and can score more goals. Injury has stopped him of late of breaking into the United team and challenge Evra to that Left Back Position.
Whoever heard of Federico Macheda until 2 weeks ago. The 17 year old Centre Foward has made a big name for himself already in England. When he netted a late winner against Aston Villa where Manchester United where losing 2-1 for 79 minutes of the game. Where he resurrected their title hopes and kept Liverpool at bay. Then a week later he repeated the act when he scored a a late winner against Sunderland when United was drawing against them 1-1. Due to these two performances Alex Ferguson hailed him by describing him as 'special'. On his debut as a substitute he scores a goal and repeating the feat again. He is somebody to look out for. The long term replacement for Berbatov who is 28 now? Maybe he is. Manchester United snapped him up from the Lazio Youth Academy. This annoyed the President alot and he started to complain again when he heard Macheda was becoming a sucess. Due to Italain rules on young footballers it is basically, impossible to keep a good Italian youngster unless they desire to stay. Plantini a very important member of Uefa is trying to change this as it is unfair.
Other youngsters from United include Johnny Evans from Northern Ireland who has stepped into the Centre of Defense when Rio Ferdinand or Nemanjic Vidic have been suspened (Evans in top ten rising stars in the Uefa Champions League by Uefa) or injured Also, Darron Gibson of the Republic Of Ireland has played a few games in the Carling Cup and has looked impressive and so has Richard Eckelesly. Also, Ben Foster has impressed in goal and got a Man of the Mtach winning performance in the Carling Cup Final win against Tottenham Hotspur. The future Mnachester United team could look like this :
Goalkeeper : Foster
Defense : Fabio Evans Vidic Rafael
Midfield : Nani Anderson Ljajic Ronaldo
Fowards : Rooney Macheda
Subs : Tosic, Eckesely, Gibson etc
The only youngsters I can see taking part of Manchester United's upcoming Champion's League tie with FC Porto would be Anderson,Nani and maybe Macheda. It would an emotional return for Anderson thats for sure. Maybe a little booing for Nani as he played for their rivals Sporting Lisbon. The game starts at 19:45 GMT London, Lisbon (Greenwich). Or Macheda might make his first appearance in Europe and show the whole of Europe what he is capable of.
